Woman had prohibited rifles and ammo in her residence: police

A 32-year-old woman who was already in custody at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre was arrested again on Tuesday after two rifles and four magazines were found in her residence. 

On Oct. 24 the accused was arrested for failing to attend court and 25 associated bench warrant charges.

She was held in custody pending a bail hearing and subsequently remanded into custody at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre.

On Oct. 25 a property management company found the two rifles and four magazines inside the accused’s unit, which were turned over to police, a news release said.

“At around 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 4, detectives attended the ATRC and arrested the accused.” 

Melinda Robinson is charged with:

  • Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device, or Ammunition x4
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order – Other Than to Attend Court x4
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm x2
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x4
  • Possession of Prohibited Device or Ammunition x2
  • Possession of Prohibited Device or Ammunition for Dangerous Purpose x2
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose x2
  • Unauthorized Possession of Firearm x2
  • Unauthorized Possession of Weapon x2

Back in May, Robinson was charged for several weapons offences and for threatening to harm a dog that was with the police service's canine unit.

The accused continues to be held in custody at the ATRC.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent until proven guilty.
