WATCH: This guitar hero transforms video game consoles into instruments

Jeff Gray began building custom guitars when he was younger because he didn’t have money to purchase them new

A technician at East Coast Buy and Sell has been turning video game consoles into guitars.

Jeff Gray said it all started when his boss asked if he could build an original Nintendo guitar that he found online.

“And he pays me hourly - so of course I can. I told him I can do anything you want. It's just how much time and money it takes.”

His boss liked his creation so much, he asked Gray to make more.

“Now he wants every gaming system we can possibly figure out how to make into a guitar,” he said in a recent interview with SooToday

Gray began building custom guitars when he was younger because he didn’t have money to purchase them new.

He would find parts and try to build a guitar.

“It’s what we call parts casters. Some of my best guitars are just a collection of parts.”

Gray can turn nearly anything into a guitar. Not just video game consoles, either. He can also turn a cigar box into a guitar.

“Each one is going to have its own problems and hurdles to jump over.

"I'd like to do every system somehow if I possibly could,” he said.

Gray said his favourite video game console to play as a guitar is the original PlayStation.

“I'm not going to lie. This is full of white ash. It's a hardwood. It's a tone wood though, so it's meant to sound good.

"But it's definitely a little weighty.”

Gray said East Coast Buy and Sell may start to sell guitars made from video game consoles in the near future.
