We regret to announce the passing of Barb Vogel in her 83rd year at Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH). She was surrounded by loved ones while she peacefully passed away on November 6, 2025. Born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario to the late Charles and late Vina Lefave. Sister of Nancy and Patricia and Mother of Kerry Esselment. Grandmother of Sarah Jessop (Jonny) and Trevor Childs (Jessica) and Great Grandmother of eight, who will truly miss their “Ducka”. She also leaves behind, her best friend of 30 years - Ron Bedford.

Barb was known to many in the community from her work in sales and marketing. She was an avid Soo Greyhounds fan and longtime season ticket holder. Barb was not afraid to learn new skills - as she most recently took up art, specifically painting. In early 2025 - she even sold her first painting. Barb enjoyed many of the community events put on in Sault Ste. Marie such as concerts, plays, and supported local makers. Barb had travelled and golfed at many courses alongside her best friend Ron.

Barb also loved to have “Ducka Days”, where she would have her Great GRANDchildren and do special activities with them - a tradition that was carried forward from having “Ducka Days” with her Grandchildren. Barb also loved to attend and cheer on her Great Grandchildren’s sports events, such as soccer and hockey practices/games.

Barb’s sparkling eyes and big smile will be remembered. Those who had the privilege of meeting her will remember her quick wit, straightforwardness, sarcastic humour, and caring heart - she quickly won people over. The nurses, doctors, and personal support workers who supported her during her last 9 months caught only a glimpse of who she was yet they cared so deeply for her. Our family is so thankful for these people. We’d like to specifically thank the staff at Sault Area Hospital, the Group Health Centre, ARCH Hospice, and the PSW’s who cared for her at home.

At Barb’s request, no services will be held. Memorial donations made to ARCH or the Group Health Centre Trust Fund (payable online by cheque) would be appreciated by the family. To remember Barb - take a loved one to a Greyhound game or create your own “Ducka Day” to have an intentional day to make the kids in your life feel known and loved.

“Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.”
