Yesterday Sault police officers charged a 20-year-old man with assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon.
At around 4:25 a.m. on Saturday, a 911 caller reported an altercation in the area of Smale Avenue and Edmonds Avenue.
Officers located a person with serious injuries at the intersection of McNabb Street and Pentagon Boulevard.
The victim was transported to hospital.
An investigation revealed the accused, who is known to the victim, struck them with a shovel and punched them multiple times, police said.
Yesterday at around 3 a.m., officers located and arrested the accused.
Brandon Leclerc is charged with assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon.
He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 12, 2026.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent until proven guilty.
