VIDEO: Sault native returns home to get kids singing

'Exposing kids to music at a young age is how they get started,' former Saultite said

Amanda Nelli is on a mission to bring choir music to a new generation of budding musicians.

Nelli was at White Pines Collegiate & Vocational School on Friday for a choir workshop.

"This is actually the first pilot program from Choirs Ontario of the Sing Ontario program," Nelli said.

It's an initiative Nelli has been operating with the district schools of Niagara for the last five years.

"Choirs Ontario and I are working to expand. The Sault has embraced the program and will be the first to experience it," said Nelli, who grew up in Sault Ste. Marie.

"Exposing kids to music at a young age is how they get started," she said.

The workshop saw over 150 students across the ADSB participate.

It will culminate in a performance to be held on Nov. 24.

Tickets are available here.
