A new venue is offering pickleballers a chance to play indoors.
Soo Pickleball and Soo Curlers worked together to transform the YNCU Curling Centre into a summer hotspot for one of Canada’s fastest-growing sports.
Several people came out on Monday for an open house at the YNCU Curling Centre, located at 124 Anita Blvd.
“There are local places in the Sault that do have indoor facilities, but it's typically in a school gymnasium that is not specific to pickleball,” said Jennifer Reid, YNCU Curling Centre general manager, describing the many lines that are on those courts.
“They offer basketball courts, volleyball courts, those kinds of things. So, this is specific to pickleball only,” she said.
Players were seen dinking the ball in the kitchen, which is when you gently hit the ball into the area around the net on your opponent's side.
The venue is seasonal, so when curling returns in mid September the pickleball flooring will be removed.
