Details continue to emerge about the shocking arrest of Sault MPP Chris Scott, who is facing two criminal charges in an alleged case of intimate partner violence.
According to court documents, Scott is accused of assault and assault with a weapon in connection with an incident that occurred on Friday Sept. 19.
The court records identify the alleged victim as Scott's spouse — and the weapon as a high chair.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford — who handpicked Scott to be the Sault's PC candidate in the February election — had little to say on Monday about his former senior staffer, except to confirm he's been booted from the party caucus.
"I was informed literally in the parking lot as we were going through here," Ford told reporters at a Monday morning press conference in Russell, Ont. "Go to the Sault Ste. Marie Police. I don’t want to interfere in a police investigation.”
Earlier this year, during an election-campaign stop at Algoma Steel, Ford had a lot more positive things to say about his chosen local candidate.
"Chris knows this riding unlike anyone, in my opinion," Ford told reporters, as seen in the above video. "He worked for Ross Romano for years, knows every detail, has talked to constituents, and he's just a great representative.
"I'll tell you one thing: he’s a worker, this guy," Ford continued. "He's gonna work his back off and represent the people of the Sault. He's gonna have a strong voice down at Queen’s Park. He's going to have everyone's back in here, like I'm going to have their backs, and he's going to be a great representative for the people of Sault Ste. Marie."
Scott sat down with SooToday for a one-on-one interview during the provincial election race. You can watch that interview HERE.
