A solid home-ice effort saw the Soo Thunderbirds skate to a 4-1 victory over the Blind River Beavers last night in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League meeting at John Rhodes Community Centre.
Running a point streak to four, as well as etching his name on the game sheet for the ninth time in 10 outings, Deven Jones-McDonald put the Thunderbirds ahead 10:35 into the proceedings as he got one past Beavers’ starter Mason Janicki.
The fast-moving, low-scoring affair maintained the same scoreline through the rest of the first period, and all of the season stanza, to keep it 1-0 T-Birds after 40 minutes.
Heading to the final frame, the Soo extended their lead at 3:55 thanks to James Legler, with help from Aiden Atkinson, who now has at least one point in five consecutive contests.
Adding some insurance five minutes later, Aiden Deratnay was credited with his third of the year with help from Jayden Arnold and Rhys Bonvie.
Blind River eventually solved Soo netminder Ryan Hicks with 7:13 remaining in regulation compliments of Shyler McGahey.
In the end, the T-Birds capped off the triumph when Landon Hill put one into an empty net in the late going to round out the scoring.
With the win, the Thunderbirds improve to 12-5-1-1 overall and in defeat, Beavers fall to 5-11-0-2.
