You know that moment when you forget your password, worry you’re about to click on something you shouldn’t, or can’t seem to get your tablet connected? Or when you need a ride to an appointment but don’t want to ask a friend? Or maybe it’s those change-of-season chores that just seem to get harder as we age?
That’s the heart behind Techie Nesters — providing tech support and nesting support so you can live in your own home longer, powered by people helping each other and using kindness as the currency instead of having to pay for help every time you need it.
When Techie Nesters first arrived in Sault Ste. Marie in September, the idea of a new kind of retirement struck a chord. Residents attended to hear how kindness, community, and practical support could help older adults stay in their homes longer — and live with more comfort and joy.
Since that first visit, momentum has been building — and now a local Nest is officially taking shape in the Soo. A new kind of community is taking flight — one that blends practical help, purpose, and a whole lot of heart.
Techie Nesters is redefining what retirement can look like. It’s not about slowing down — it’s about staying independent, connected, and full of purpose.
The Soo Nest is underway as part of a growing Ontario network of older adults and empty nesters who believe that aging in place should come with comfort, connection, and confidence.
Building a Village for Modern Times
Think of Techie Nesters as a modern-day village — a place where kindness fuels support and everyone has a role.
Members enjoy real-world help with errands, rides, and light home tasks — all accessed through a Compassion Concierge who connects them to the right support when they need it. No awkward asking, no guilt, and no worry about burdening friends.
Members also enjoy social and educational gatherings like NestGiving and Tea & Tech Time, where laughter meets learning, and friendly technology guidance that keeps them safe at home and connected with loved ones.
“Whether help looks like setting up a tablet, having someone run errands when you’re sick, climbing a ladder to replace a light bulb, getting the decorations out for Christmas, or sharing a walk or cup of tea — we show up for each other,” says founder Jenn Gerynowicz, who launched the first Nest in Collingwood. “It’s comfort and joy for older adults who want to live well, give back, and stay confidently in control of their own story — without having to pay every time they need a hand at home or with something for themselves”.
The Comfort & Joy Tour
The Sault Ste. Marie launch is part of the Tidings of Comfort & Joy Tour — an uplifting presentation series that shows how small innovations and neighbourly care can bring both comfort and joy to everyday life.
Participants learn how SMART home devices can reduce fall risks or kitchen mishaps, and discover apps that simplify errands, organize passwords, or even spark creativity through ChatGPT.
Each event ends with open conversation and tech support help if needed.
A Team You Can Count On
Whether you’re 55 or 85, there’s a place for you here.
Techie Nesters isn’t only for those needing help; it’s for anyone who values community and purpose. It’s freedom for the kids and peace of mind for parents — knowing there’s a trusted local network ready to step in when needed.
Even if you already have great support, it’s always good to have backup — a team that brings comfort, confidence, and friendship.
“I love this for my mom,” says Candace, whose mother lives in the Soo. “I don’t live nearby, but I know that with one phone call, someone can pop in to check on her, drop off groceries, clear the driveway, walk the dog, and make sure she’s okay — for those times when she’s in bed and not feeling well. It’s not just peace of mind; it’s real, practical help. I don’t know how to put a value on that — I honestly don’t know where else I’d turn.”
Residents are invited to a FREE presentation on Saturday, November 8 at 1:30 PM at the Northern Community Centre, 556 Goulais Avenue (Steelton Room, main floor). Attendees will learn how Techie Nesters works, how to get involved, and how to benefit from early-bird membership pricing at $149 annually (regularly $499/year).
Why It Matters
Every member and volunteer is police-checked, creating a safe, trustworthy environment.
Inspired by the world’s blue zones — where people thrive through purpose, connection, and shared care — Techie Nesters blends modern tools with timeless community values.
By the end of 2025, 25 Nests will be connected across Ontario, proving that retirement doesn’t have to mean retreat — it can mean renewal.
