It is with heavy hearts that the family of Benjamin Karl Schmidt share the news of his passing on November 8, 2025, at the age of 34.

Ben will always be remembered by his mother-in-law, Debbie. He will be deeply missed by his surviving grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Ben was accepted to Mohawk College in 2009 and created a life in Southern Ontario. He graduated from Mohawk with a diploma in Insurance. He met his future wife, Sarah, in 2012 while attending college. Ben and Sarah lived together with most of his immediate family living in the same apartment building in Hamilton.

Ben had a generous heart and believed deeply in bringing people together with his love of baking and cooking. He enjoyed gardening, video games, sci-fi, writing, philosophy and “lazy days” at home with his fur legged family and wife.

In his last year on this earth, he bought a house with his wife and mother-in-law Debbie, returning to live in his hometown. He volunteered at local events that mattered to him; reconnecting with cherished childhood friends and family and loved to explore and revisit childhood experiences. He was excited to share the Bon Soo Festival and other childhood nostalgia with his family.

Ben struggled profoundly living with a chronic auto immune condition called Crohn's disease. The last year was medically rough on him.

He maintained his positivity and made the best he could with what life sent his way. He believed deeply in Buddhist beliefs. How it was important to live in the here and now, learning to let go and the concept of living right livelihood.
