It is with love and sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Aileen Royle, who passed away peacefully on Monday, November 10th, at the age of 88. Joan was born on March 7, 1937, to her loving parents, Leta and Clifford Royle.

She was the beloved sister of Donna Bain (predeceased by Donald and John) and the late Gordon (Irene). Joan will be fondly remembered by her niece and nephews, John Parr (Sandra), Paul Parr (Kim), Kevin Parr, Gary Wilson (Jo-Anne), and Jane Sillberg (Roger), all of whom held a special place in her heart. Her great-nieces gave her many joyful times.

Joan shared a lifelong and cherished friendship with Leslea Anderson, whose companionship, laughter, and unwavering support enriched her life in countless ways. Joan and Leslea travelled extensively, expanding their horizons around the world.

As a dedicated educator and author, Joan spent her distinguished career as an Associate Professor at the School of Nursing, McMaster University. She was deeply committed to her students, colleagues, and the advancement of nursing education. Throughout her career, she developed strong and caring relationships with many connections that blossomed into lifelong friendships. Her passion for teaching, mentoring, and learning left an enduring mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Joan will be remembered for her intelligence, compassion, and generosity of spirit. She touched the lives of so many with her warmth, wisdom, and kindness.

Family and friends are invited to gather in her memory on Saturday, November 29th, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Circle of Life Cremation and Burial Centre, 100 King Street East, Dundas, Ontario, L9H 1C4 (additional parking at the Air Force Club).

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Joan Royle Nursing Bursary at McMaster University at giving.mcmaster.ca, the Alzheimer's Society, or contributions to a charity of your choice in Joan’s memory.
