OPP seize $1.8 million in suspected cocaine near Thunder Bay

Police seized roughly $1.8 million in suspected cocaine during a traffic stop in Shuniah, near Thunder Bay.

According to the OPP, officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation and discovered 18 kilograms of suspected cocaine.

The incident occurred on Oct. 29 at around 11:30 a.m.

Kaiona Hazel, a 26-year-old from Oshawa, and Ashley Newell, a 29-year-old from Ajax, were charged with possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine and trafficking in a Schedule 1 substance – cocaine.

Both were held for bail and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay at a later date.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and both accused are considered innocent until proven guilty.
