In Canada’s industrial and commercial sectors, safety is more than a regulatory requirement – it’s a deeply ingrained value that drives daily operations. From construction sites to manufacturing floors, more Canadian companies recognize that investing in comprehensive training and rigorous safety practice not only protects workers but also strengthens productivity and trust. By fostering a culture where prevention, preparedness, and continuous learning come first, Canadian businesses demonstrate their commitment to ensuring every employee returns home safe at the end of the day.

For the past 24 years, NATT Safety Services has been helping provide individuals with training and offering organizations the industrial and safety services they require to foster safe work environments. That’s a personal point of pride for NATT Safety Services CEO and President, Kevin Pattison, who launched his uniquely focused safety company on September 11th, 2001.

“It’s been extremely rewarding watching this company grow,” said Pattison, whose company offers a broad spectrum of industrial and commercial services. “I built this business with the help of a great team. To watch the growth from where we were in 2001 to where we are today has been extremely exciting.”

According to Pattison, NATT Safety Services is built on three pillars – safety, personnel, and training. Both companies and individuals turn to Natts Safety Services to secure professional training in commercial and industrial areas such as truck driving, working at heights, confined space entry and awareness training, mobile elevated work platforms, forklift operation, high angle rope rescue, ASERT fire and spills, and fire watch. The goal is to add value to companies while keeping safety a number one priority no matter in what sector a company may be operating.

Recently, NATT Safety Services has been working with Indigenous communities across the province to design, develop, and deliver customized training programs that align with each community’s unique needs and employment goals. Training offerings vary and may include AZ/DZ licensing, Heavy Equipment Operator training, and a range of safety training/certifications. All training is delivered directly in the community to help eliminate barriers such as travel and accessibility, ensuring greater participation and success.

Upon program completion, NATT hosts a graduation and job fair to celebrate participant achievements and facilitate direct connections with potential employers. The company provides support to all graduates in their transition to the workforce by providing job search assistance and employment placement support.

NATT’s expertise in confined space rescue, safety training standards, and industrial safety aligns closely with the needs of Sault Ste. Marie’s steel, infrastructure, and energy sectors. With mining and transportation both identified as strong growth industries, Pattison said Sault Ste. Marie stands to gain from NATT’s ongoing focus in these areas, supporting local job readiness and economic strength. To achieve such objectives, NATT Safety Services hosts monthly public training events at its office at 117 White Oak Drive East. These are facilitated by a group of committed trainers, including Local Trainers (Gord and Greg), a Local Support Team (Bobbi and Matthew) and Local Health & Safety Coordinators (Garry). This highlights company flexibility to present private and/or customized courses for specific industries in Algoma Region.

To ensure the company’s message reaches as many people in the community as possible, NATT also publishes a newsletter that circulates with this information/dates. The company also hosts an informative podcast to illustrate NATT Safety Services’ desire to impact the communities within company operating areas.

One of the other key components of NATTS Safety Services is a commitment to the communities in which it has offices – that includes Brockville, Vaughan, Sault Ste. Marie, Lively, and Timmins. For example, the company has established partnerships with local companies like Second Chance CPR NATTS offers ongoing support for the Sault Community Theatre including sponsorship of their recent gala, as well as donating to and attending local Soup Kitchen events. NATT Safety Services is also involved in community groups like the Sault Chamber of Commerce and Association of Ontario Road Supervisors – Algoma Region and many others.

“We belong to probably 25 different associations spread across all the communities where we have established operations,” said Pattison. “We get involved in a lot of the local organizations, from the local Chamber of Commerce to construction and road associations. We get involved in everything we can locally to participate and offer help whenever we can.”

Despite the current volatility in the economy Pattison said he likes to focus on the positive signs coming from several of the industries that relay on his personnel and safety training services. As a result, his outlook on the future growth for NATT Safety Services is bright – not only because business is good, but also because that means other companies are focused on getting their employees proper safety training.

“I’m not a believer in the doom and gloom outlook. We’re big in the mining sector which is extremely strong right now. Transportations is also strong for us. You can get caught up in that kind of negative messaging as a company. We choose not to go down that path. We look for the positive in everything we do. Our year is quite busy, and that comes from a lot of teamwork.”
