Algoma Fall Festival is just around the corner, and acclaimed singer-songwriter Julian Taylor is coming to Sault Ste. Marie to help kick off the festivities.
With an eclectic mix of folk, rock, and rhythm and blues influence, the Toronto-based musician is set to play at The Pub at The Water Tower Inn on Saturday, Oct. 18 for the first of five events planned over the next couple months.
“I'm excited to come play in the Sault,” Taylor told SooToday.
His work explores love, humility, nature, and more.
“Resilience and strength and perseverance and things like that are also quite prevalent,” he said.
“Sometimes I just write about ridiculous things too. I've got a song called Bobby Champagne, which is really about nothing other than somebody's name.”
Taylor’s music career spans over two decades, and abruptly took off in 2020 with the release The Ridge, which landed him a Canadian Folk Music Award and two Juno Award nominations.
Since then, he’s been able to focus on his music full time.
“After you're at it for like 20 years, and all of a sudden – overnight – it becomes something that you can actually do for a living, you're mostly just grateful for that opportunity,” he said.
Currently in Nashville, Taylor said his career has brought him to many new places over the past few years.
“I've been very busy travelling a lot and playing a lot and writing a lot and collaborating with a lot of artists,” he said.
More about this fall’s events, including tickets to Taylor’s show, can be found on the Algoma Fall Festival website.
