Sault police arrested a 28-year-old man on Tuesday in connection with a fraud that happened earlier in the week.
On Monday a 911 caller reported someone attempting to fraudulently make a purchase using a stolen credit card at a business in the 100 block of Gore Street.
Last night at around 9:10 p.m., officers on patrol on Wellington Street East saw the accused, “who they knew was wanted on several charges,” police said in a news release.
A search of the accused located a small quantity of suspected fentanyl and a bank card not belonging to him. "Further investigation revealed the accused attempted to withdraw money from an ATM using the bank card,” police said.
Austin Syrette is charged with:
- Fraud – Under $5,000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Under $5,000
- Unauthorized Use of Credit Card x2
- Possession of Stolen Credit Card x2
- Possession of Schedule I Substance (Fentanyl)
- Failure to Comply with Undertaking x3
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing. None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent until proven guilty.
