LETTER: Invest in Pointe Des Chenes, not a new park

As debate continues around potential developments along the Sault Ste. Marie waterfront, one citizen is calling for more practical investments that benefit both locals and tourists alike

SooToday received the following letter to the editor from Calvin Charron:

Greetings, I just felt compelled to make comment on the not so latest city council idea of developing some kind of water front theme park and such, which sounds quite unnecessary and costly for taxpayers as well in the end.

What I do know personally I have seen many people of all ages enjoying Clergue Park and other now existing water front places of enjoyment just as it is. In the opinion of a long standing taxpayer and citizen of Sault Ste. Marie this money should be more well spent on upgrading and perhaps developing the beautiful natural beach and property of Pointe Des Chenes just minutes away from town.

Even to have a scheduled shuttle for visitors and locals alike would be an asset. There has always been a great demand for close and accessible rv and overnight camping in our area. Would that not make the greatest tourist destination sight our city hall is so desperate to find?

Just personally tired of seeing our money spent on things that do not seem to work out and the neglect of issues that matter to us citizens most.
