A pair of local teams booked berths in the Northern Ontario Secondary School Athletics football finals after capturing city titles this week.
Teams from St. Mary’s and Korah will represent the Sault in the NOSSA finals at both the junior and senior levels.
In the junior final, Adam Provenzano ran for four touchdowns as St. Mary’s beat Korah 35-7,
Provenzano finished the game with 238 yards rushing on 18 carries in the win for the Knights.
Vinn Volpe Sagle also had a touchdown run for the Knights while Luke Cady had a pair of two-point converts. William Watts also kicked a convert in the victory.
Defensively for the Knights, Cady had 9.5 tackles while Ashton Neufeld added seven.
Kaleb Laitinen had the lone touchdown for the Colts in the game and had 96 yards rushing on 17 carries.
Nolan Coudert kicked the lone convert for Korah.
Martino Coccimiglio had seven tackles defensively.
With the win, the junior Knights will represent Sault Ste. Marie in the NOSSA junior final in Sudbury on Nov. 1.
In the senior final, Payton Melchiorre led the way for the Korah Colts with three rushing touchdowns in a 35-19 win over St. Mary’s.
Melchiorre ran for touchdowns of 26, 46, and 49 yards in the victory while racking up 345 yards rushing on 19 carries in the victory.
Quarterback Brett Koski completed four of eight passes for Korah for 131 yards, which included a 53-yard touchdown pass to Aiden Wonch.
Koski also ran the ball for a one-yard touchdown run.
A.J. Coccimiglio hit five converts for the Colts.
For the Knights, quarterback Aaron Juma completed 12 of 18 pass attempts for 212 yards, which included touchdown throws of 24 yards to Cole Rivet and seven yards to Grayson Giordano.
Juma also had 51 rushing yards on seven carries in the loss.
Hunter Jackson had 125 yards rushing on 21 carries for St. Mary’s.
Micah Cuglietta hit a pair of field goals and an extra point for St. Mary’s.
Defensively for the Colts, Gabe Phillips had nine tackles. Tyler Cady had five tackles for the Knights.
The Colts will now prepare for the NOSSA final, slated for Nov. 8, where they will face the winner of the semifinal between the Sudbury and North Bay champions.
