One person is facing charges after Sault Ste. Marie Police arrested a prohibited driver who was asleep behind the wheel of a running vehicle.
Police say officers spotted the vehicle while patrolling York Street at around 9:15 a.m. on Friday.
Officers suspected the driver may be impaired by drugs.
“A search of the accused located approximately one gram of suspected cocaine and drug paraphernalia,” said police in a news release.
“The accused was transported to the Police Services Building where they were evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert. The evaluation determined the accused was impaired by drugs.”
Shane Erdman, 35, has been charged with:
- Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and/or Drug
- Operation While Impaired – Blood Drug Concentration
- Operation While Prohibited
- Dangerous Operation
- Possession of Schedule I Substance (Cocaine)
- Failure to Comply with Undertaking
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 17.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent until proven guilty.
