A Sault man named Tony says he might purchase a lottery ticket today after a fallen tree came within a few feet of hitting his house.
Tony, who didn’t want his last name included, said a neighbour came knocking on the door of his Chippewa Street home at around noon to tell him the tree had blown over.
“I can’t believe it. I get two or three knocks on the door and I look out the front window and there’s a huge tree,” he said.
The tree was 30 to 35 feet tall, so big the neighbour wasn't sure if Tony or his wife’s cars were underneath it.
“Luckily my wife had just moved her car and mine was in the garage. Unbelievable. It was two feet from my garage door.”
Tony said his neighbour was considering having the tree removed over the summer, but the arborist said it was healthy.
The Weather Network said Saultites could expect wind gusts up to 59 km/h today.
“That wind was intense. It was really blowing and blowing. That’s the last thing I ever expected,” Tony said.
It’s up to his neighbour to have the tree removed.
“I’m blocked in. I’ll give him as much time as he needs,” Tony said.
