We are very saddened to share that our sister Caren CORALIE Cook M.Div, has passed away in Sault Ste Marie on October 28th, 2025 of complications from kidney disease at the age of 67.
Born in Niagara Falls, Coralie was the beloved daughter of Bob and Claire Cook (Chapman) and leaves her sisters Cindy (Jeff) and Laurie (John) Cook, and many cousins, including maternal cousin Barbara Vivash of the Boyd clan, and paternal cousin Bruce Cook and Judy, and children Andrea, Alison and Andrew.
Coralie was a gentle soul who loved dogs beyond all else and her years in the Soo were spent happily sharing her beautiful home on Kohler St. with two rescue dogs and her "baby" Sheng-ba, the second of her beloved black Chows. She especially enjoyed spending summers with our Mom at "camp" in the Bay of Islands and took all her vacations there, where the family dogs could all swim and play together.
Coralie was an avid learner and achieved multiple university degrees, culminating in an M.Div from the UofT (Emmanuel) that enabled her to secure her dream job of Chaplain at the Sault Area Hospital (General and Plummer sites). She provided pastoral care to the community for over 12 years and was well respected amongst her peers for her compassion and professionalism.
After an early retirement when the hospitals closed, Coralie went back to school at Algoma University and studied for two more degrees, including an Honours BA in social work. She then went on to care for our mother in Barrie until 2021 when she moved back to the Soo, and faced her own increasingly severe health problems. She was extremely grateful for the kind care she received from the dialysis team at the SAH.
Words can never capture the funny, joyful, childlike attitude Coralie had to life, and her love of the music we grew up on (Eric Clapton was her favourite), and the story books our Nana gave us, ("Dr. Goat put on his coat, and went out to make some calls"...) stayed with her until the very end.
She leaves behind a beautiful rescue cat Midnight, who was happily re-homed by Coralie's kind friend Sandra.
We will miss you Coralie. You were a wonderful sister and our shared memories will keep you alive in our hearts forever.
Donations in her honour to the SSM Humane Society or the SAHF Renal Care Fund (payable online or by cheque) would be gratefully received.
