On Saturday, Sault police officers charged a 25-year-old woman in connection with a break and enter that happened in September.
The break and enter was reported to 911 on Sept. 27, at a unit within a multi-unit residential building in the 600 block of Second Line West.
"An investigation revealed the accused broke into the unit of a victim who is known to them and stole several items. A warrant was obtained for their arrest," police said in a news release.
Around 2 a.m. on Nov. 1, officers conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle in the area of Wellington Street West and Carmen's Way. Upon speaking with the driver, officers could see the passenger had an open container of alcohol.
Officers conducted a search of the vehicle under the Liquor Licence and Control Act.
A search of the passenger—identified as the accused—located 2.48 grams of suspected cocaine and 0.5 grams of suspected MDMA. The accused was arrested on outstanding warrants and additional drug charges.
Brooke Bouchard is charged with:
- Break and Enter – Commit Indictable Offence
- Theft – Under $5,000
- Possession of Schedule I Substance (Cocaine)
- Possession of Schedule I Substance (Methylenedioxyamphetamine)
- Failure to Comply with Appearance Notice
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and Bouchard is considered innocent until proven guilty.
