In an era where many universities are facing tough challenges, Algoma University is showing strength and foresight.

Since 2023, Algoma U has intentionally launched six new Master’s programs—an impressive milestone that reflects the institution’s strategic growth and responsiveness to the evolving demands of the local and global markets.

Each program aims to integrate academic excellence with community engagement and hands-on learning opportunities, ensuring students gain the skills and experience required to succeed in a rapidly changing world. Importantly, Algoma U’s Master’s programs strengthen the University’s role as a community-embedded institution dedicated to meaningful, socially responsible impact.

The focus on career readiness, community insight, and the evolving needs of today’s economy is what has guided this rapid scaling of Algoma U’s suite of graduate programs.

The new Master of Psychotherapy, the first graduate program of its kind in Northern Ontario, joins the following:

  • Master of Global Business and Economy
  • Master of Science in Business Analytics
  • Master of Science in Computer Science
  • Master of Computer Science, and
  • Master of Science in Biology.

The Master of Psychotherapy, led by experienced clinicians, was developed with the community to meet the growing demand for qualified mental health and counselling professionals.

“At its core, this program is about listening to and working with our community,” said Dr. Teryn Bruni, Program Planning Lead and Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology. “Every step of its design has been guided by local voices to ensure it truly reflects the realities and needs of the people we serve.”

Algoma University’s graduate programs prepare students to lead with insight, empathy, and adaptability across disciplines. Each one reflects the University’s enduring commitment to serve people and communities through education that is inclusive, forward-looking, and grounded in purpose.

With these offerings, Algoma University continues to build futures through education that is locally grounded and globally informed. To learn more about graduate studies at Algoma University, visit algomau.ca/academics/graduate-programs/
