Job Description:

Suraci & Olszewski LLP is looking for a Staff Accountant / CPA Student to join our close-knit team of professionals. As part of our firm, you will have exposure to a wide range of clients and industries, with a focus on meeting our client's needs in an efficient and friendly manner.
We are seeking a suitable individual to join and grow with the firm. We provide accounting, tax, assurance and business advisory services to owner-managed businesses in Sault Ste. Marie and area.

You will be involved in the planning and organizing of engagements to meet deadlines; will be expected to recognize, analyze and propose sound alternatives and conclusions, and understand our client’s business.
You must be able to handle a variety of responsibilities in a professional manner, work on multiple assignments with a high degree of autonomy and produce high-quality deliverables with short deadlines.
The client base includes a variety of owner-managed incorporated and unincorporated businesses, not-for-profits and public sector organizations.
You will have responsibility for the completion of files individually and as part of a team, working directly for partners. Successful candidates will demonstrate their ability to work well with minimal supervision and balance multiple tasks and files.

Responsibilities include:

Preparation of Compilation engagements and financial statements for clients in a variety of industries

Preparation of small audit and review engagements, financial statements and supporting working papers

Assisting with larger audit and review engagements within a supervised team

Preparation of Personal, Corporate, Partnership and Trust tax returns

Preparation of tax compliance and information filings including T4, T5, EHT, HST and WSIB filings

Understanding accounting technical standards relevant to financial reporting in Canada

Correspondence with CRA regarding corporate, personal, payroll, and sales tax issues.

Effectively communicating with the team, clients, and relevant government agencies
Various income tax and accounting projects as required
Qualifications:
University degree with a specialization in accounting / finance preferred

CPA designation in progress (preferred, but not mandatory)

2+ years practical experience in an accounting firm or department (preferred, but not mandatory)

Experience with Caseware / Taxprep / Quickbooks Online/ Sage / Office 365 is considered an asset
