R.F. Contracting Inc. (“RF”) is an experienced multi-trade General Contractor operating throughout Northern Ontario for over 40 years. Projects range in size from $100,000 to $5,000,000++ and involve all disciplines that include, but not limited to, Plumbing, Pipefitting, Ironworking, and Commercial General Contracting trades.

Reporting to the General Contracting Project Manager, RF is seeking a Lead Carpenter to join its growing team. This position will be responsible for supporting the Construction Phase of the project life-cycle, including: On-Site management, crew supervision, project flow planning, subcontractor scheduling and management and carpentry duties. The successful candidate will work on a full-range of commercial and industrial projects, collaborating with our various in-house, multi-trade project managers, estimators and coordinators, stakeholders, clients/owners, suppliers, architects, engineers, subcontractors, trade supervisors, city staff, building departments, and clients, to ensure that our quality projects are delivered on time, and within budget. Provide support to project operations as it relates to planning and scheduling, monitoring the progress of projects, and handling project changes.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Site set up and mobilization
• Project planning in collaboration with the Construction Manager
• Crew and trade supervision
• Hands-on Carpentry
• Material and equipment planning
• Subcontractor coordination and planning
• Apply technical experience to interpret documentation, specifications, and drawings
• Attend and participate in site-visits, as well as on-site project and OAC meetings
• Maintain successful vendor and subcontractor relationships
• Communicate all aspects of project status daily to the Construction Manager
• Willing to work in field in trade when required
• Perform other duties, as required

Qualifications and Skills:

• A wide range of carpentry skills from basic installations to complex commercial assemblies.
• Journeyman Carpenter and/or demonstrated trade experience
• Previous experience working in a fast-paced commercial construction, general contracting environment
• Fluent in reading and interpreting project drawings
• Developing and implementing a project plan
• Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Upholds the value of a safe, efficient, and productive work environment
• Solid team player with a positive attitude
• Thrives on handling multiple priorities and project components
• Experience working in Northern Ontario an asset

Working Conditions:

The standard work week for this position is 40 hours (8 hours a day, 5 days a week). As with many careers in construction, there are peak periods that will require you to work overtime. The number of additional hours you work each week depends on the construction sector and region you work in, and will vary from one job to the next.
