Speech language Pathologists (SLPs) provide a wide variety of communication-enhancing interventions and supports through their work with individual students, groups of students, and educator teams, both inside and outside the classroom. Reporting to the Special Education Co-ordinator and Superintendent responsible for Special Education, the Speech Language Pathologist will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to improve student outcomes.

REQUIREMENTS:
• Assessment of speech and/or language skills of students who are referred for service
• Provide frequent, direct intervention to student through both individual and small group sessions, focusing on explicit achievement of communication goals
• Embed communication strategies directly into the students’ learning environment (e.g. in-class support or pull-out groups) to maximize the transfer of skills to the classroom setting
• Collaborate with classroom teacher, Learning Resource Teachers, Educational Assistants, specialized program staff (i.e. ACE and STAR), student and families to support the development and implementation of treatment plans
• Design and deliver Professional Development (PD) sessions for various board staff (e.g. teachers, EAs, administrator) on best practices for language development, communication disorders, and implementation of program strategies
• Supervision of Communication Disorder Assistants implementing treatment plans
• Setting up communication systems including alternative, augmentative systems using technology
• Meetings with multidisciplinary or school-based teams to determine collaborative response to student needs
• Initiate, where appropriate, referrals to School Therapy Services
• Initiate, where appropriate, recommendations for resources and equipment to aid students in their development of language and communication skills
• Review Audiology Reports to determine need for hearing related technology and liaison with the Canadian Hearing Society
• Other duties as assigned

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
• A master’s degree or equivalent in speech-language pathology and must be registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO)
• Experience with school-aged children is preferred
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
• A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required
