It is what it is and you have to do what you have to do. 330 M people vs 33. Big neighbour is run by an ego maniacal, overgrown child. What is best, although difficult, for your people? Rock and a hard place? Lesser of two evils? Discretion is the better part of valour? Two wrongs dont make a right? Take your pick..

Lets see what this transition produces. Whether we like it or not we are a one horse town and that horse is in as bad a shape as I have seen in....ever. They employ 2500 + contractors (either for regular maintenance or special/capital projects), + suppliers (employees and investment in property etc) . We are looking at losing approx 5000 good paying jobs and that doesnt include collateral damage, in a town that cannot afford to lose that number. We need to support Algoma Steel and hope for the future with them still operating or pray for our community without them.

I am a landlord and am sitting on vacant units. It seems few commentors, if any, are landlords. I have worked hard to be a good landlord for over twnty years, but it isnt easy. The Tenant Protection says it all in its title. There are definitely unscrupulous landlords, but there are unscrupulous tenants as well. As well, there is very little understanding for us landlords who try to help the housing situation. We try to find good tenants and until you truly find one, we leave units vacant, rather than rent to a problem tenants and suffer all the consequences, non payment of rent, damage, unnecessary noise, etc. Then we are left spending a lot of time and money to evict. I suppose we are a minority, but we still count. Doug Fords idea seems to be a step in the right direction.

I am 63 years old and embarassed to live here. I loved living here for so long but to see where city councils have taken us recently with frivalous adventures and poor investments it is sad. And now I drive by open drug use everyday in the Wellington/East Streets area to and from work downtown. The downtown they have and continue to want to improve? How can they be that out of touch? And continue to ruin this once proud city and vibrant downtown.

Couldn't agree more. Some of these councillors are so out of touch with the real issues. The entire concil should go visit and volunteer a full day, at least, at the mens shelter downtown or SOYA, or anywhere that real people are manning the front lines, and then maybe something will be done. That would be a great showing of their support for kindness, empathy, respect, and compassion. Hopefully we don't have to wait till next February. Come on council, help solve the serious issues facing our city, and then we can entertain these fanciful ideas.

Does anybody out there think that Pierre P would be a better PM negotiating with Donald Trump? in these Extraordinary times? truly negotiating with the Trump people? Carney still seems the lesser of two evils and by far has the experience in business, etc to look after our great country.

I would have hoped Pierre P would have adopted a "Team Canada" approach rather than take potshots at Carney, whom in my opinion, has done a good job considering who he has to deal with. Pierre P seems to be following the Trump/MAGA handbook. Unfortunately he is not a billionaire who has the support of the parliament/senate etc, just a career politician who is back in the mix thanks to the elected MP who stepped aside. You would think he would be a little more humble. patriotic, and respectful.

I was there. Terrible tragedy, but not Algomas fault. They did things right. I am a contractor and have been for the better part of 30 years. Algoma has "upped their game" in safety training for us. You take the training, but you have to implement it, every minute you are on site.
